Jay Pettit has over 15 years of experience representing technology companies in all phases of intellectual property law. Mr. Pettit has represented numerous clients in complex IP disputes relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and IP licensing rights. Mr. Pettit has been involved in all phases of litigation including case management planning, TROs and preliminary injunctions, Markman hearings, trial preparation, appeals, settlement negotiations, and various forms of alternative dispute resolution.Mr. Pettit has counseled numerous clients concerning worldwide patent and trademark strategies, and has filed and prosecuted many applications in the electrical, computer and mechanical arts. In addition, Mr. Pettit is skilled in negotiating and drafting commercial, academic and government contracts, including development agreements, technology and software license agreements, professional services agreements and non-disclosure agreements.

Mr. Pettit also has significant experience as an in-house counsel. As Associate General Counsel of ViaSat, a global leader of commercial and government satellite communication systems, Mr. Pettit managed all aspects of the company’s multi-million dollar IP program, including its patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. He is familiar with developing and managing budgets, implementing trade secret programs, educating senior management and other employees, performing IP due diligence and portfolio analyses, and analyzing IP clearance issues for new products.Over the years, Mr. Pettit has worked with many different technologies such as satellite and telephonic communication systems, semiconductor chip manufacturing, computer software and networks, Internet/e-commerce technology, analog and digital electronic circuits, medical devices (such as implantable defibrillators), electronic musical instruments, video receivers and imaging systems, voice messaging systems, sunglass lens coatings, electronic gaming devices and ink jet printers.Prior to joining Lexevia, Mr. Pettit worked for many years at several international law firms in California and Texas including Paul Hastings; Brobeck, Phleger&Harrison; O'Melveny&Myers; and Baker Botts. Before he began his career in law, Mr. Pettit was an officer in the United States Navy for over nine years. After graduating first in his Navy flight school class, Mr. Pettit flew aircraft carrier-based A-6E Intruders while sailing the high seas and exploring the world.
